What happened

Cooper said a crew setting up an Askania cinetheodolite for a precision landing system came back shaken. They told him a silent saucer-like craft had hovered over them and landed about 50 yards away on three extended legs, and that they had filmed it. Cooper said he saw the still negatives, reported the event, and was ordered to send the film to the Pentagon. It has never surfaced. James McDonald later found and interviewed witnesses to a 1957 Edwards filming incident with its own Blue Book file. Their account and that file involve no landing, and Cooper is not named.

Witnesses

Capt. Gordon Cooper, Edwards AFB flight test engineer (not an eyewitness); an unnamed camera crew
