In a 2003 Komsomolskaya Pravda interview, Popovich said he had seen a UFO only once, from an airliner, when a luminous triangle appeared in view of the passengers. Popovich later led the All-Union Ufology Association and in 1991 obtained a package of KGB UFO files. No investigation of his own sighting is known.
