Cooper said he spent two days watching many flights of objects of different sizes moving in fighter formation, and that jets could not reach their altitude. In a statement later circulated as his message to the United Nations, he described "numerous radiant flying discs above us." His accounts disagree on direction, east to west in one version and west to east in another. Cooper's belief in UFOs rested on this and entry 3, not on anything he saw in space.
