What happened

Ground surveillance radar picked up an unknown object about 1.75 miles southwest of a plant facility, heading north at 10 to 15 mph. The plant locked down protected areas and sent officers to follow it. The officers described something about 4 ft tall and 2 ft wide at the base, a diamond type-shape rounded at the top. It was silent, and through binoculars they could see no means of propulsion. Witnesses disagreed on its color: black to some, blue, red and silver to others. They followed it for several miles until it was out of sight. One news account says it accelerated and changed direction at the end; another analysis says the report describes no unusual performance. A photo from a radar tower went to Sandia National Laboratories for enhancement, and the report went to the FBI. Sandia's conclusions remain withheld. The report was first obtained under FOIA by journalist Dustin Slaughter, then released by the government in PURSUE Release 2 (imagery, May 22, 2026) and Release 4 (full report, July 10, 2026).

Witnesses

Two unnamed Pantex security police officers; ground surveillance radar operators; a radar tower photographer

Explanation

Explanation proposed

Drone or balloon (proposed). Metabunk contributors matched it to a coaxial drone, the Exail IT-180. Its steady drift at about wind speed also fits a balloon. Separately documented drone incursions over Pantex in 2022 and 2023 show the site's airspace is regularly crossed by small aircraft.
