What happened
Witnesses reported bright green balls of fire crossing the sky low and nearly level, often over the atomic weapons sites. At a Los Alamos conference on February 16, 1949, LaPaz said the fireball he saw on December 12 was not a conventional meteor fall. The meeting led to Project Twinkle, a planned network of observation and camera posts that was never fully set up.
