What happened

Princeton redirected two F/A-18F Super Hornets from a training sortie. Below them the crews saw a patch of churning white water, and above it a small white object moving erratically. Fravor spiralled down toward it. He says it mirrored him and began to climb. When he cut across to meet it, it accelerated and was gone. Princeton then reported a contact at the jets' planned rendezvous point, about 60 miles away, less than a minute later. Fravor told 60 Minutes it was about the size of his jet, with no markings, wings or exhaust. He testified to the House Oversight Committee on July 26, 2023. Slaight has not spoken publicly.

Witnesses

Cmdr. David Fravor, commanding officer of VFA-41 "Black Aces", and his weapons systems officer, Lt. Cmdr. Jim Slaight

Explanation

Unresolved

None accepted. AARO still lists the case as unresolved. Before leaving AARO, Sean Kirkpatrick suggested a classified balloon or test program; Fravor says it was not a balloon
