What happened

Free reported a long, sausage-shaped airship maneuvering over the cliffs for a few minutes. The Globe, quoting the Daily Mail, said that the next day he found a "curious object" where he had seen it pass. Historian Brett Holman notes that nothing ties the object to any airship, real or imagined. At least one other witness in the wave, Mr. Allen of Market Harborough, used similar words: "an oblong airship with lights in front and behind."
