What happened
Betty saw a bright light near the Moon and Jupiter. Through binoculars it became an "odd-shaped" craft with flashing lights. Near Indian Head it descended toward the car. Barney said it reminded him of "a huge pancake" with a row of windows and figures inside. The later abduction account came under hypnosis. A 2011 AP story described the craft as flat and cigar-shaped, and a state historical marker now stands at Lincoln. Skeptics suggest the original light was Jupiter.
