Highways around Levelland, Hockley County, Texas, USA

Explanation proposed
Representative drawing from the Eggs and ovals page, not this specific sighting.
"rocket-shaped (first witnesses); egg-shaped (later witnesses)"The witness's own shape words

What happened

Saucedo and Salaz said their truck's engine died as a rocket-shaped object rose and passed over them. About an hour later Wheeler reported a brilliantly lit egg-shaped object about 200 ft long sitting on the road east of town. Other drivers that night reported similar objects and stalled engines. Two days later Stokes reported an egg-shaped craft, about 500 ft long, near White Sands. Ufologists often rank Levelland among the strongest cases because of the number of independent witnesses in a short time.

Witnesses

Pedro Saucedo and Joe Salaz (first call); motorist Jim Wheeler; other drivers and Levelland officers; military technician James Stokes (separate sighting in New Mexico, November 4)

Explanation

Explanation proposed

Ball lightning or electrical storm (Air Force). Critics note the weather that night is disputed.
