What happened

Watching through a telescope, Stanley said the lights were "quite clearly individual airplanes" flying in formation. The separate 10:00 p.m. "row of lights" was explained by the USAF as LUU-2B/B flares dropped by Maryland Air National Guard A-10s over the Barry M. Goldwater Range.
