What happened
Residents reported lights that followed people at night and struck them with beams, leaving marks. They called the lights "chupa-chupa" and kept watch with bonfires and fireworks. By November Dr. Carvalho had treated about 35 people who said the light had touched them. The mayor asked the Air Force for help, and Hollanda's team photographed lights in late 1977. His final report found no sign of anything extraterrestrial. In a 1997 interview he said he had seen the phenomena himself.
