What happened

The Shropshire Star described "dozens of sightings across western Britain of triangular shaped UFOs" over about six hours. A police officer compared it to "two Concordes flying side by side and joined together." The Cosford patrol reported two fast, bright lights at about 1,000 ft at 01:15. The likely cause is the re-entry of a Russian satellite's booster rocket (Cosmos 2235 per Jenny Randles), which broke into pieces. A computer simulation of where the fragments would have been visible matches the sightings.
